One-time application of blended controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer (CRN) has the potential to solve the difficulty of top-dressing fertilizer in the cultivation of rice and reduce the cost of CRN fertilizer application. However, its effects on rice dry matter and nitrogen (N) accumulation and translocation, yield and N-use efficiency (NUE) remain uncertain. Field experiments were carried out at three sites (Mingguang, Chaohu, and Guichi) in the Yangtze River Delta in China to compare the effects of the conventional split applications of urea and the blended CRN and on post-anthesis dry matter and N accumulation and translocation, yield, and NUE in rice at 0, 60, 120, 180, and 240 kg N ha-1. The results showed that at the equal N application rates, compared under the conventional N fertilizer treatment, the blended CRN application significantly increased the rice yield by an average of 0.9-6.9%, mainly due to increase the number of spikelets per panicle. The highest yield achieved with blended CRN treatment occurred at 200 kg N ha-1, with an NUE of 45.9%. Moreover, in comparison to the conventional N fertilizer, the blended CRN treatment increased pre-anthesis N translocation (Pre-NT) by 1.0-19.8%, and the contribution of pre-NT to grain N by 0.2-8.7%, and NUE by 3.2-28.4%. Meanwhile, the blended CRN treatment reduced labor costs by 1800 Yuan ha-1 and enhanced the economic gains by 21.5-68.8%. Therefore, one-time application of blended CRN ≤ 200 kg N ha-1 application rate improved rice yield, NUE, and economic profit compared to equivalent rates of split applied conventional N fertilizers.

Follicular fluid meiosis-activating sterol (FF-MAS) is a small molecule compound found in follicular fluid, named for its ability to induce oocyte resumption of meiosis. Granulosa cells (GCs) within the follicle are typically located in a hypoxic environment under physiologic conditions due to limited vascular distribution. Previous research suggests that hypoxia-induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in GCs may be crucial triggering factors in porcine follicular atresia. However, the impact of FF-MAS on GCs within follicles has not been explored so far. In this study, we uncovered a novel role of FF-MAS in facilitating GC survival under hypoxic conditions by inhibiting STAT4 expression. We found that STAT4 expression was upregulated in porcine GCs exposed to 1% O2. Both gain and loss of function assays confirmed that STAT4 was required for cell apoptosis under hypoxia conditions, and that the GC apoptosis caused by hypoxia was markedly attenuated following FF-MAS treatment through inhibition of STAT4 expression. Correlation analysis in vivo revealed that GC apoptosis was associated with increased STAT4 expression, while the FF-MAS content in follicular fluid was negatively correlated with STAT4 mRNA levels and cell apoptosis. These findings elucidate a novel role of FF-MAS-mediated protection of GCs by inhibiting STAT4 expression under hypoxia, which might contribute to the mechanistic understanding of follicular development.

The identification of nanoparticles within heterogeneous mixtures poses significant challenges due to the similarity in physical properties among different nanomaterials. Here, we present electrochemically assisted high-resolution plasmonic scattering interferometric microscopy (HR-PSIM). This technique allows for the high-throughput identification of nanoparticles by accurately measuring the refractive index of individual nanoparticles without interference from background signals. Through elimination of parabolic scattering interference and employing electrochemical modulation, HR-PSIM demonstrates high spatial resolution and stability against background noise, enabling the differentiation of nanoparticles with closely matched refractive indices, such as Au and Ag nanoparticles. The efficacy of this method is demonstrated through its application in real-time, label-free imaging of nanoparticle electrochemical activity, providing a platform for the precise and high-throughput characterization of nanomaterials. The robustness of our approach against electrochemical interference and its high spatial resolution mark a significant advancement in the field of nanomaterial analysis, promising wide-ranging applications in nanoparticle research and beyond.

Multiple isozymes are encoded in the C. elegans genome for the various sphingolipid biosynthesis reactions, but the contributions of individual isozymes are characterized only in part. We developed a simple but effective reversed-phase liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (RPLC-MS/MS) method that enables simultaneous identification and quantification of ceramides (Cer), glucosylceramides (GlcCer), and sphingomyelins (SM), three important classes of sphingolipids from the same MS run. Validating this sphingolipid profiling method, we show that nearly all 47 quantifiable sphingolipid species found in young adult worms were reduced upon RNA interference (RNAi) of sptl-1 or elo-5, which are required for synthesis of the id17:1 sphingoid base. We also confirm that HYL-1 and HYL-2, but not LAGR-1, constitute the major ceramide synthase activity with different preference for fatty acid substrates, and that CGT-3, but not CGT-1 and CGT-2, plays a major role in producing glucosylceramides. Deletion of sms-5 hardly affects SM levels. RNAi of sms-1, -2, and -3 all lower the abundance of sphingomyelins with an odd number of carbon atoms (mostly C21 and C23, with or without hydroxylation) in the N-acyl chain, and only sms-1 RNAi does not elevate sphingomyelins containing even-numbered N-acyl chains. This suggests that sphingolipids containing even-numbered N-acyl chains could be regulated separately, sometimes in opposite directions, with those containing odd-numbered N-acyls, presumably monomethyl branched chain fatty acyls. We also find that ceramide levels are kept in balance with those of glucosylceramides and sphingomyelins.

Background: Obstruction is a common complication of advanced colorectal cancer. This study was aimed at investigating the safety, efficacy, and feasibility of transcatheter arterial perfusion chemotherapy combined with lipiodol chemoembolization for treating advanced colorectal cancer complicated by obstruction. Patients and methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted using clinical data of patients with advanced colorectal cancer who received arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with lipiodol chemoembolization treatment at our center. Treatment efficacy was evaluated in terms of obstruction-free survival and overall survival, and treatment complications were monitored. Results: Fifty-four patients with colorectal cancer complicated by obstruction were included. All patients successfully underwent transcatheter arterial infusion combined with lipiodol chemoembolization treatment. The average lipiodol dose administered was 2.62 ± 1.45 ml (0.5-5.5 ml). No serious complications such as perforation or tumor dissemination occurred. The clinical success rate was 83.3% (45/54). One month after treatment, the objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were 66.67% and 88.9%, respectively. The median obstruction-free survival was 5.0 months. No serious adverse events occurred. As of the last follow-up, 6 patients survived, 44 died, and 4 were lost to follow-up. Conclusion: Our findings revealed that transcatheter arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with lipiodol chemoembolization is safe and effective for treating advanced colorectal cancer complicated by obstruction. It may serve as a new treatment strategy for patients with advanced colorectal cancer complicated by obstruction.

Stable homogenous two-electron water oxidation electrocatalysts are highly demanded to understand the precise mechanism and reaction intermediates of electrochemical H2O2 production.Here we report a tetranuclear manganese complex with a cubane structure which can electrocatalyze water oxidation to hydrogen peroxide under alkaline and neutral conditions. Such a complex demonstrates an optimal Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 87%, which is the highest FE(H2O2) among reported homogeneous and heterogeneous electrocatalysts. In addition, active species were identified and co-catalysts were excluded through ESI-MS characterization. Furthermore, we identified water binding sites and isolated one-electron oxidation intermediate by chemical oxidation of the catalyst in the presence of water substrates. It is evident that efficient proton-accepting electrolytes avoid rapid proton building-up at electrode and substantially improve reaction rate and selectivity. Accordingly, we propose a two-electron catalytic cycle model for water oxidation to hydrogen peroxide with the bioinspired molecular electrocatalyst. The present work is expected to provide an ideal platform to elucidate the two-electron WOR mechanism at the atomic level.

High-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) affects individuals living at high altitudes, characterized by increased red blood cells (RBCs) production in response to hypoxic conditions. The exact mechanisms behind HAPC are not fully understood. We utilized a mouse model exposed to hypobaric hypoxia (HH), replicating the environmental conditions experienced at 6000 m above sea level, coupled with in vitro analysis of primary splenic macrophages under 1% O2 to investigate these mechanisms. Our findings indicate that HH significantly boosts erythropoiesis, leading to erythrocytosis and splenic changes, including initial contraction to splenomegaly over 14 days. A notable decrease in red pulp macrophages (RPMs) in the spleen, essential for RBCs processing, was observed, correlating with increased iron release and signs of ferroptosis. Prolonged exposure to hypoxia further exacerbated these effects, mirrored in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Single-cell sequencing showed a marked reduction in macrophage populations, affecting the spleen's ability to clear RBCs and contributing to splenomegaly. Our findings suggest splenic ferroptosis contributes to decreased RPMs, affecting erythrophagocytosis and potentially fostering continuous RBCs production in HAPC. These insights could guide the development of targeted therapies for HAPC, emphasizing the importance of splenic macrophages in disease pathology.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a mature T-cell lymphoma that accounts for for 10-15% of childhood lymphomas. Despite the observation that more than 90% of pediatric cases harbor the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement resulting in aberrant ALK kinase expression, there is significant clinical, morphologic, and biological heterogeneity. To gain insights into the genomic aberrations and molecular heterogeneity within ALK-positive ALCL(ALK+ ALCL), we analyzed 46 pediatric ALK+ ALCLs by whole-exome sequencing, RNA-sequencing, and DNA methylation profiling. Whole-exome sequencing found on average 25 SNV/Indel events per sample with recurring genetic events in regulators of DNA damage (TP53, MDM4), transcription (JUNB), and epigenetic regulators (TET1, KMT2B, KMT2A, KMT2C, KMT2E). Gene expression and methylation profiling consistently subclassified ALK+ ALCLs into two groups characterized by diferential ALK expression levels. The ALK-low group showed enrichment of pathways associated with immune response, cytokine signaling, and a hypermethylated predominant pattern compared to the ALK- high group, which had more frequent copy number changes, and was enriched with pathways associated with cell growth, proliferation, metabolic pathways, and. Taken together, these findings suggest that there is molecular heterogeneity within pediatric ALK+ALCL, predicting distinct biological mechanisms that may provide novel insights into disease pathogenesis and represent prognostic markers.

Members of the abscisic acid (ABA)-responsive element (ABRE) binding factor (ABF) and ABA-responsive element binding protein (AREB) families play essential roles in the regulation of ABA signaling pathway activity and shape the ability of plants to adapt to a range of stressful environmental conditions. To date, however, systematic genome-wide analyses focused on the ABF/AREB gene family in wheat are lacking. Here, we identified 35 ABF/AREB genes in the wheat genome, designated TaABF1-TaABF35 according to their chromosomal distribution. These genes were further classified, based on their phylogenetic relationships, into three groups (A-C), with the TaABF genes in a given group exhibiting similar motifs and similar numbers of introns/exons. Cis-element analyses of the promoter regions upstream of these TaABFs revealed large numbers of ABREs, with the other predominant elements that were identified differing across these three groups. Patterns of TaABF gene expansion were primarily characterized by allopolyploidization and fragment duplication, with purifying selection having played a significant role in the evolution of this gene family. Further expression profiling indicated that the majority of the TaABF genes from groups A and B were highly expressed in various tissues and upregulated following abiotic stress exposure such as drought, low temperature, low nitrogen, etc., while some of the TaABF genes in group C were specifically expressed in grain tissues. Regulatory network analyses revealed that four of the group A TaABFs (TaABF2, TaABF7, TaABF13, and TaABF19) were centrally located in protein-protein interaction networks, with 13 of these TaABF genes being regulated by 11 known miRNAs, which play important roles in abiotic stress resistance such as drought and salt stress. The two primary upstream transcription factor types found to regulate TaABF gene expression were BBR/BPC and ERF, which have previously been reported to be important in the context of plant abiotic stress responses. Together, these results offer insight into the role that the ABF/AREB genes play in the responses of wheat to abiotic stressors, providing a robust foundation for future functional studies of these genes.

We attempted to evaluate clinical application value of high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS), fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), BRAF gene, and combination of HFUS, FNAC, and BRAF gene in diagnosing papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). The 150 patients with thyroid minimal lesions who underwent HFUS, FNAC and BRAF gene testing before surgery in our hospital from June 2020 to December 2021 were selected as research subjects. Patients were divided into two groups based on postoperative pathological results. The consistency of diagnostic results of HFUS, FNAC, and BRAF gene and their combination with those of pathological examination, diagnostic efficacy of HFUS, FNAC and BRAF gene combined detection and individual detection for PTMC lymph node metastasis, and diagnostic value of HFUS, FNAC and BRAF gene combined detection and individual detection for PTMC lymph node metastasis received analysis and comparison. The consistency of diagnostic results of combined detection with pathological examination exhibited elevation relative to that of HFUS, FNAC and BRAF gene detection alone (P < 0.05). The negative predictive value, sensitivity and accuracy of combined detection exhibited elevation relative to individual detection (P < 0.05). The AUC of combined detection in diagnosing PTMC lymph node metastasis exhibited elevation relative to that of HFUS and BRAF gene alone (P < 0.05). HFUS combined with FNAC and BRAF genes possesses high diagnostic value, with high diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. Thus, combined detection for PTMC before surgery can accurately determine whether lymph node metastasis occurs, reduce occurrence of missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis, and thus improve diagnostic precision.

Mylabris sibirica is a hypermetamorphic insect whose adults feed on oilseed rape. However, due to a shortage of effective and appropriate endogenous references, studies on molecular functional genes in Mylabris sibirica, have been tremendously limited. In this study, ten internal reference genes (ACT, ARF1, AK, EF1α, GAPDH, α-TUB, RPL6, RPL13, RPS3 and RPS18) were tested and assessed under four selected treatments including adult ages, adult tissues, temperatures, and sex by RT-qPCR based on five methods (Ct value, geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper and RefFinder). Our findings showed that RPL6 and RPL13 were the most optimal internal reference gene combination for gene expression during various adult ages and under diverse temperatures; The combination of RPL6 and RPS18 was recommended to test gene transcription levels under different adult tissues. AK and RPL6 were the best reference genes in male and female adults. RPL6 and RPL13 were the most appropriate reference gene pair to estimate gene expression levels under four different tested backgrounds. The relative transcript levels of a uridine diphosphate (UDP)-N-acetylglucosamine-pyrophosphorylase (MsUAP), varied greatly according to normalization with the two most- and least-suited reference genes. This study will lay the basis for further molecular physiology and biochemistry studies in M. sibirica, such as development, reproduction, sex differentiation, cold and heat resistance.

Background: The debate regarding the optimal drainage method for acute obstructive upper urinary tract infection persists, focusing on the choice between percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) and retrograde ureteral stenting (RUS). Aims: This study aims to systematically examine the perioperative outcomes and safety associated with PCN and RUS in treating acute obstructive upper urinary tract infections. Methods: A comprehensive investigation was conducted using the Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases up to December 2022, following the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) statement. The utilized keywords included 'PCN', 'RUS', 'acute upper obstructive uropathy', and 'RCT'. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies providing accurate and analyzable data, which incorporated the total subject count, perioperative outcomes, and complication rates. The assessed perioperative outcomes included fluoroscopy time, normalization of temperature, normalization of serum creatinine, normalization of white blood cell (WBC) count, and operative time. Safety outcomes encompassed failure rate, intraoperative and postoperative hematuria, postoperative fever, postoperative pain, and postoperative nephrostomy tube or stent slippage rate. The study protocol was prospectively registered at PROSPERO (CRD42022352474). Results: The meta-analysis encompassed 7 trials involving 727 patients, with 412 assigned to the PCN group and 315 to the RUS group. The outcome of the meta-analysis unveiled a reduced occurrence of postoperative hematuria in the PCN group [odds ratio (OR) = 0.54, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.30-0.99, p = 0.04], along with a decreased frequency of insertion failure (OR = 0.42, 95% CI 0.21-0.81, p = 0.01). In addition, the RUS group exhibited a shorter fluoroscopy time than the PCN group (mean difference = 0.31, 95% CI 0.14-0.48, p = 0.0004). Conclusion: Given the significant impact of hematuria and catheterization failure on postoperative quality of life, the preference for PCN appears more advantageous than RUS.


Meta-analysis of perioperative outcomes and safety of percutaneous nephrostomy vs retrograde ureteral stenting in the treatment of acute obstructive upper urinary tract infection The optimal drainage method for acute obstructive upper urinary tract infection between PCN and RUS is currently debatable. Our meta-analysis found PCN performed better than RUS in hematuria and catheterization failure rate, although PCN was associated with longer exposure time.

Psoriasis is a refractory inflammatory skin disorder in which keratinocyte hyperproliferation is a crucial pathogenic factor. Up to now, it is commonly acknowledged that psoriasis has a tight connection with metabolic disorders. Withanolides from Datura metel L. (DML) have been proved to possess anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties in multiple diseases including psoriasis. Withanolide B (WB) is one of the abundant molecular components in DML. However, existing experimental studies regarding the potential effects and mechanisms of WB on psoriasis still remain lacking. Present study aimed to integrate network pharmacology and untargeted metabolomics strategies to investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of WB on metabolic disorders in psoriasis. In our study, we observed that WB might effectively improve the symptoms of psoriasis and alleviate the epidermal hyperplasia in imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis-like mice. Both network pharmacology and untargeted metabolomics results suggested that arachidonic acid metabolism and arginine and proline metabolism pathways were linked to the treatment of psoriasis with WB. Meanwhile, we also found that WB may affect the expression of regulated enzymes 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), 12-LOX, ornithine decarboxylase 1 (ODC1) and arginase 1 (ARG1) in the arachidonic acid metabolism and arginine and proline metabolism pathways. In summary, this paper showed the potential metabolic mechanisms of WB against psoriasis and suggested that WB would have greater potential in psoriasis treatment.

Bismuth-telluride-based alloy has long been considered as the most promising candidate for low-grade waste heat power generation. However, optimizing the thermoelectric performance of n-type Bi2Te3 is more challenging than that of p-type counterparts due to its greater sensitivity to texture, and thus limits the advancement of thermoelectric modules. Herein, the thermoelectric performance of n-type Bi2Te3 is enhanced by incorporating a small amount of CuGaTe2, resulting in a peak ZT of 1.25 and a distinguished average ZT of 1.02 (300-500 K). The decomposed Cu+ strengthens interlayer interaction, while Ga+ optimizes carrier concentration within an appropriate range. Simultaneously, the emerged numerous defects, such as small-angle grain boundaries, twin boundaries, and dislocations, significantly suppresses the lattice thermal conductivity. Based on the size optimization by finite element modelling, the constructed thermoelectric module yields a high conversion efficiency of 6.9% and output power density of 0.31 W cm-2 under a temperature gradient of 200 K. Even more crucially, the efficiency and output power little loss after subjecting the module to 40 thermal cycles lasting for 6 days. This study demonstrates the efficient and reliable Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric modules for broad applications in low-grade heat harvest.

This study presents the sequencing and annotation of mitochondrial genomes from five Rhingia species of the family Syrphidae, focusing on codon bias. Each species possessed 22 tRNAs genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs genes, and a control region, without any observed gene rearrangements. Nucleotide composition analysis revealed a higher AT content compared with GC content, indicating AT enrichment. Neutrality plot, Parity rule 2 bias, and effective number of codons plot analyses collectively indicated that natural selection primarily influences the codon usage bias in the five Rhingia species. Relative synonymous codon usage analysis identified the optimal codons for Rhingia binotata, R. fromosana, R. campestris, R. louguanensis, and R. xanthopoda as 10, 14, 10, 11, and 12, respectively, all ending with A/U and exhibiting AT preference. Phylogenetic analysis, based on maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference methods applied to three datasets, confirmed the monophyly of Rhingia. In conclusion, this research establishes a foundation for understanding the phylogenetic evolution and codon usage patterns in Rhingia, offering valuable for future studies.

Background: Complications frequently occur after neonatal enterostomy. Enterostomy formation is a common outcome following an emergency neonatal laparotomy. This study investigated whether the incidence of complications after enterostomy could be decreased with a drainage device (composed of foreskin cerclage staple, a condom, and a 0-Mersilk braided nonabsorbable suture) fixed in the proximal ostomy bowel tube to improve proximal enterostomy in newborns. Methods: This study was a retrospective case note review of the incidence of emergency neonatal enterostomy incidence over a 3-year period (2/2016-2/2019) at the authors' center. A single surgeon conducted all surgeries. The incidence of intraoperative and postoperative complications was compared between modified and traditional surgery groups. Results: All 47 surgeries were successfully completed (32 boys and 15 girls; sex ratio: 2.13:1). The mean (±SD) birth weight, gestational period, and daily age were 2.64 ± 0.81 kg 35.62 ± 3.76 weeks and 3.49 ± 5.61 days, respectively. The patients were divided into modified surgery groups (20 cases) and traditional surgery groups (27 cases). The modified surgery group had significantly lower rates of total complications, unplanned reoperations, wound-related complications, and stoma-related complications than the traditional group (p <0.05). Conclusions: The preliminary observations suggested that the simple drainage device was a safe and effective operation device that reduced the risk of stoma-related complications.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent major depressive disorder (MDD) is a significant mental health concern that often leads to recurrent depression in adulthood. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) offers unique insights into the neural mechanisms underlying this condition. However, despite previous research, the specific vulnerable brain regions affected in adolescent MDD patients have not been fully elucidated. AIM: To identify consistent vulnerable brain regions in adolescent MDD patients using rs-fMRI and activation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analysis. METHODS: We performed a comprehensive literature search through July 12, 2023, for studies investigating brain functional changes in adolescent MDD patients. We utilized regional homogeneity (ReHo), amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and fractional ALFF (fALFF) analyses. We compared the regions of aberrant spontaneous neural activity in adolescents with MDD vs healthy controls (HCs) using ALE. RESULTS: Ten studies (369 adolescent MDD patients and 313 HCs) were included. Combining the ReHo and ALFF/fALFF data, the results revealed that the activity in the right cuneus and left precuneus was lower in the adolescent MDD patients than in the HCs (voxel size: 648 mm3, P < 0.05), and no brain region exhibited increased activity. Based on the ALFF data, we found decreased activity in the right cuneus and left precuneus in adolescent MDD patients (voxel size: 736 mm3, P < 0.05), with no regions exhibiting increased activity. CONCLUSION: Through ALE meta-analysis, we consistently identified the right cuneus and left precuneus as vulnerable brain regions in adolescent MDD patients, increasing our understanding of the neuropathology of affected adolescents.

BACKGROUND: In the end stage of kidney disease, abnormal levels of blood calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone lead to bone metabolism disorders, manifesting as osteoporosis or fibrocystic osteoarthritis. X-ray, CT, and MR are useful for detecting bone lesions in dialysis patients, but currently, computer vision has not yet been used for this purpose. METHODS: ResNet is a powerful deep CNN model, which has not yet been used to distinguish between the bones of dialysis patients and healthy people. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the ability of the Resnet50 model to identify the bone of dialysis patients from normal bone. RESULTS: CT images of 200 cases (100 dialysis patients and 100 healthy people aged 31-72 years with male:female ratio of 51:49) were randomly divided into the training and testing groups at the ratio of 8:2. The module of 'torch' was used to train the model of Resnet50 for the current task of image classification. In the test cohort, the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity with hyper-parameter=0 were 60%, 65%, and 55%, respectively. When the hyper-parameter was 0.6 or 0.7 versus 0, the accuracy was significantly higher (P<0.05). When the hyper-parameter was another number, the accuracy was not significantly different from that with no hyper-parameter (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: This study has indicated computer vision to be suitable for identifying bone changes caused by dialysis; a hyper-parameter has been found necessary for improving model accuracy. The ResNet50 model with hyper-parameter = 0.7 has exhibited 90% sensitivity in identifying the bone of dialysis patients.

Transition metal boride TM2B3 is widely studied in the field of physics and materials science. However, Mn2B3 has not been found in Mn-B systems so far. Mn2B3 undergoes phase transitions from Cmcm (0-28 GPa) to C2/m (28-80 GPa) and finally to C2/c (80-200 GPa) under pressure. Among these stable phases, Cmcm- and C2/m-Mn2B3s comprise six-membered boron rings and C2/c-Mn2B3 has wavy boron chains. They all have good mechanical properties and can become potential multifunctional materials. The strong B-B covalent bonding is mainly responsible for the structural stability and hardness. Comparison of the hardness of the five TM2B3s with different bonding strengths of TM-B and B-B bonds reveals a nonlinear change in the hardness. According to the Stoner model, these structures possess ferromagnetism, and the corresponding magnetic moments are almost the same as those of GGA and GGA + U (U = 3.9 eV, J = 1 eV).
